  • Many AXF members have received various medals in regional, provincial and national level competitions and also represented Canada in international competitions. 

 

Jean Paul Banos 

In 1980, Jean-Paul won his first Canadian junior championship while capturing the senior championship. He will be Senior Canadian Champion six times between 1983 and 1992.

He attended his first Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984. He also presented Canada at the Seoul Games (1988), Barcelona (1992) and Atlanta (1996).

He has competed in fifteen world championships and several World Cup events between 1978 and 1996, he is most successful at the Pan American Games. In Caracas, in 1983, he deserves the bronze medal in individual and in team. Four years later, in Indianapolis. Jean-Paul wins the gold medal with Peter Westbrook, the bronze medalist at the Los Angeles Olympic Games. To top it off, he adds bronze as a team to his record. Finally, in 1991, in Havana, he won another bronze medal in team. Jean-Paul is also a two-time individual and team gold medalist at the Commonwealth Championships in 1986 and 1990.

By doing so on the international stage, Jean-Paul Banos is helping to raise the level of Canadian fencing. In the world championship, after a sixteenth place finish in 1982, he will be able to reach tenth place in 1993. He will also be part of the team having achieved the feat of positioning himself sixth in the world championships of 1991 and 1993. 

After the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, Jean-Paul will end his sports career. Passionate about fencing, he will be involved in the development of his sport by working as technical director of the Quebec Fencing Federation from 1991 to 1997.

Mark Peros

Mark Peros is a veteran of the Canadian fencing program, having made his senior international debut in 2003. He has attended three FIE World Championships. Peros had also won many provincial and national championships, and from 2010 to 2013, Peros achieved many excellent results in international and national competitions.
